A custom-painted and extensively modified version of Katya Elp’s magnificent Akhal-Teke stallion sculpture.
“Magnum” captures the ancient elegance and unmistakable presence of the Akhal-Teke breed. Refined and athletic, with long, flowing lines and a powerful silhouette, Katya’s sculpture is a beautiful study of this remarkable breed. And yes — he’s huge! At Large Traditional scale (1:8), Magnum is a substantial piece that deserves a special place in any collection.
This is a strictly limited edition of just 45 copies, and all modifications to the original sculpture were approved by Katya Elp.
A personality of his own In my hands, Magnum has developed a character all his own: bold, rebellious, and looking like he might bite you at any moment. I spent several days refining his expression, paying particular attention to the smallest details — from the wrinkles around his muzzle to his teeth, tongue, and newly positioned ears. These changes give him a distinctive personality that sets him apart from the original sculpture.
To bring his appearance closer to life, I also gave him a real mohair mane and tail. His mane is clipped short in the typical Akhal-Teke style, while his tail has a more dynamic shape, lightly styled with fixative spray. Of course, you can restyle it to your liking! I used natural gray and white mohair rather than dyed fibers, preserving the natural colors of the material.
A hand-painted fleabitten gray For Magnum’s coat, I chose a light dapple fleabitten gray — a subtle, complex color that allowed me to explore the texture and tonal variation of his coat in great detail. As always, I painted the entire model by hand using my signature hair-by-hair technique. Working on such a large sculpture was a considerable undertaking, but the scale also gave me room to develop the finest details.
Layers of white, pink, beige, deep black, and subtle brown tones create depth beneath the coat’s delicate surface. Fine individual hairs follow the direction of growth, while brown freckles and carefully placed dapples bring the gray coat to life. His finely detailed facial markings, deep brown eyes, and that unmistakably toothy grin complete the picture.
A champion in the show ring Magnum has already built an impressive show record! Throughout 2025 and 2026, he competed at model horse shows in Germany and abroad, earning championship titles, first-place awards, a trophy, and prize ribbons.
All of his show awards will accompany him to his new home, so his next owner will receive not only a unique piece of art, but also a little collection of memories from his show career.
